Recycled Insurance Leads Stink!

There, I said it. But they do.

How many times have you paid the last $500 you could spare to get more business in the door and it flopped. You pay $3, $5, and $8 a lead just to find out the prospects have been called by 40 agents in the past 2 weeks, or even going back months? The whole experience leaves a bad taste in your mouth and you feel violated, sad, worried, and worst of all…alone.

If you are in sales and have truthfully never felt like that, let me be the first to congratulate you. You’ve done all the right things and never had a bad dip in your business and that’s amazing. But, most of us in sales have been at the bottom of the barrel and felt helpless at some point. Yes, it got better because you have a computer and you are reading this. Plus, you’re buying leads hopefully soon from us. So, things recover.

I always tell people that nothing bad ever lasts. Just grit your teeth and work through it.

But buying leads is supposed to help you during a time of need. It’s supposed to give you customers to help and bring in some badly needed revenue. But you buy cheap recycled leads and they all flop.

And if you demand your money back, you won’t get it.

In a country with 328 million people, why is it necessary for leads companies to churn and recycle leads so much?

GREED

Money. It’s the almighty dollar they are chasing and they don’t care if it hurts you, the agent in the process.

So, just about ALL BIG LEADS COMPANIES DO IT!

Think about it. You’re a leads company owner and you have tens of thousands of internet leads in your database just waiting to be sold. What do you do? Sell them once and you’re done? No, you sell them to 5,6,10, or more agents at the same time and the first one to sell the lead gets the prize even though all of them paid for it. Sounds unfair, doesn’t it?

Fast Forward to us and our “Why”.

When we decided to get into the leads business, it was because of the fact that all leads sucked. We knew that if we could get verifiable good leads in the hands of a good insurance agent, they would close most of them. And we knew we needed to do it quickly. So that was our criteria for the best leads. We just didn’t know how affordable they would be.

 

So, the things we looked for were:

  • Staying small enough to focus on quality, while earning enough to make it profitable.
  • Double verifying every lead with a well-trained telephone agent asking thoughtful questions
  • Telemarketers who were rewarding for quality not quantity
  • Getting the leads to agents within 24 hours so they could have a high closing ratio
  • Keeping costs down by outsourcing where possible and not getting greedy
  • Nurturing customer relationships so agents could grow with us
  • Being real and transparent. Nothing to hide here
  • And providing training and advice to our agencies and agents so they could all experience success

These were the big ones. And, if you started a lead company, you would probably do it the same way.

So, if you hear of the old big stale leads companies that have a thousand sales reps and menu systems that go on for days, people not calling you back, and selling the same old fruitcake leads from two Christmases ago, just stay away from them.
